Team Tries To Cross An Ocean Using Only Solar Power

Can We Cross An Ocean Using Only Solar Power ?

A group of inventors from California are attempting to set a new world record by crossing an ocean with a solar powered autonomous boat. Named the Sea Charger, the craft is powered by the sun hitting it’s two 100 watt solar pv panels and driving an electric propeller shaft.

Batteries on board will allow the Sea Charger to motor along even when the sun goes down. The craft will use GPS and remote monitoring to navigate the voyage from California to Hawaii.
