Extreme Fire Fighting Engineering Using Ex-Military Technology

Talk About Extreme Fire Fighting Engineering.

There are fire trucks and then there are fire trucks. Of course the same can be said for fires. They are for sure not all created equally. Oil well fires are particularity hard to extinguish and require special technigues and equipment.

Neccessity is the mother of invention.

So how do you safely and quickly put out a raging oil well fire? With the most powerful fire truck in the world. Actually it is a turbine powered fire fighting tank.

The Hungarians with access to surplus Russian weapons and equipment, took a Russian T34 tank and the turbine engines from a Russian MIG 21 and made this fire fighting monster.

This spectacular prototype is called Big Wind ( in English).

The engineers have designed the Big Wind to inject water into the turbine airstream and effectively “blow out” the fire like a candle flame. The monster machine travels only at speeds of a tank but once it gets to the fire, it very quickly puts it out.

Very cool. This is what engineering is meant to be right? Take a massive problem and solve it by using science and brute strength technology. I wonder what we can make with all that spend nuclear fuel and some rockets….

Way to go!
