This is a bit of a surprise!  When most virtual reality systems developers are working to design headsets or glasses to be smaller, lighter, faster and have amazing graphics, one major player has gone the other way. HP has just released a wearable backpack virtual reality headset combination in time for the Christmas season.

It is the HP Z VR Backpack PC. It sports the latest in video processing from Nvidia QuatroPro 5200 and an Intel Core i7 VPro processor. You can use it as desk top then pick up, swing it on your back and take it on the road.

HP seems to be targeting this to industry or at least the training field. They claim it is the most powerful wearable VR PC on the market. It is certainly unique and they stress that is no toy.

The VR backpack comes in a 16 or 32 GB memory size and is energy star rated. The entry price for the 32 Byte models is $3699. U.S. There is a lot of competition in this area right now from Oculus, Epson, Microsoft and others so it will be interesting to see if the system really performs better than the competition.
