What Is Quantum Computing? – Mr. Prime Minister

Good Question, what is quantum computing.

We hope that the politicians we elect are at least as knowledgeable as the average person. It would be great if they were a lot smarter than the average voter and maybe that is the case since we did elect them right? These same politicians go on to either set or support policy things ranging from healthcare to scientific research so their views on science matter.

Quantum physics is not an easy subject for most of us to grasp. The workings of the quantum world do not resemble what we see in the larger world we call reality. Scientists are working to harness some of the aspects of quantum behavior to create a working quantum computer to realize that they believe are incredible possible benefits.

What is quantum computing?

I don’t think we expect any of our elected politicians to be able to explain the theory behind quantum computing. In Canada recently which is actively working to be a world leader in the area of quantum computing and artificial intelligence a journalist decided to put the the Prime Minister of Canada on the spot to answer what he thought Quantum computing actually was.

The event was at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in April 2016, and his answer is worth watching. What is quantum computing Mr Prime Minister ( or Mr. President…)
