Augmented Reality Glasses In The Movies

I have noticed that we are starting to see augmented reality glasses (or mixed reality ) in action movies. Typically they are being used in these shows by either military types of spies. A New York based company Six15 Technologies recently had some of there wearable VR tech showcased on America Assassin. ( See good and bad guys have them).

Six15 Augmented Reality Glasses

Six15 Technologies, based in Rochester, specializes in researching, developing and manufacturing wearable optics displays. To date, the company has delivered over 15,000 display systems to forces in active military combat and covert operations. Six15’s core set of wearable technology products such as smart glasses, thermal imagers, and ruggedized tactical computers are designed to power decision making, enhance problem solving, and accelerate critical action.

About American Assassin and Augmented Reality Glasses

American Assassin is due out September 15, 2017, and is a feature film adaptation of New York Times bestseller novelist Vince Flynn that follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War.

Six15’s CEO Rich Ryan said:

Working to support CBS films on this movie was a work of passion.  As a company, Six15 is committed to developing cutting edge technology that supports agencies in our government defending our country.  As an individual, I have been a tremendous fan of the Vince Flynn series of novels since discovering them.

In an industry that is bleeding edge, raising awareness for showcasing real applications is critical. Ted Ricks, CTO at Six15 adds,

We are excited to not only see the inclusion of smart glasses in the film, but more importantly, to be a part of a movie that accurately portrays the hardware and visual experience of the real-world augmented reality technologies available to our defense forces today.

American Assassin will open Friday, September 15 and will have show times at both AMCLowes Webster 12 and Regal Greece Ridge Stadium 12.
