A Personal Humanoid Robot.

Unbelievably, it is possible to buy a home robot today! I mean yesterday’s science fiction is today’ science. Artificial intelligence science plus two decades of robotics engineering has finally made it possible to buy a reasonably priced home robot that just a few years ago would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you could buy it at all!

Let’s take a look at one that is available from Amazon and works with their Alexa system. This humanoid robot has a name as all good robots do and it is Lynx,

Lynx is a humanoid robot with Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service. Lynx combines UBTECH’s proprietary robotics with the automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding and search capability of Amazon Alexa, resulting in a lifelike human-to-robot interface.

As artificial intelligence, deep learning science makes improvements so will Lynx’s operating system. What is it that you expect out of a home robot? Good question right?

The Chinese robotic company, Ubtech, has Lynx, the first humanoid robot compatible with Alexa. This robot is capable of performing all the functions of Alexa, such as:

  • sending reminders,
  • playing music
  • performing searches.

Lynx also has a Surveillance mode, which will send a 30-second video to the application on your smartphone in case it detects any sound or movement in its surroundings. Another feature that caught our attention was the Avatar mode, which will allow you to see and talk through your camera and microphone, thus giving users the possibility to be “present” at any event or business meeting.

These are not the only skills that this robot has, since he is also able to sing, dance and teach yoga, becoming the perfect companion for those days when you want to exercise at home. This humanoid robot, measures only 20 inches, which makes us wonder what the potential would have been if it had been made with the size of a real person.

This is not a cheap home robot at $800, but really how many people have this level of Tech at home?
